CATETOCA is a triple video projection produced after my artist residence in Lunda-Norte, Angola. Known by the strong artistic production named Tchokwé, this Angolan province was also reference in the scarification and tattoo practices. Actually is one of the main diamonds reserve in Angola and almost exclusively dedicated to this sector.
During my 15th days artist residence at the diamond mining CATOCA, I’ve asked an old man to tattooed my right arm a draw of a diamond that I’ve done inspired on the Tchokwé symbols.
The video shows on the first screen an image with all flags of the countries that are involved in the diamonds exploitation in CATOCA, on the other screen the tattoo process in my arm and in the last screen a closed up of a man rewinding a VHS tape manually. |
